Itinerary- South Africa

I wanted to give anyone who is interested in a trip to South Africa our itinerary as well as a list of costs. This was largely planned by me.  I like to do to it and my husband Jim is happy to have me plan it.  He is a great traveller and we are always excited to go to our next destination.

This Feb 15-25 trip was on Kenyan Airlines, and from what I was told, the route from NYC to Nairobi was recently approved.  The connection to Johannesburg was from Nairobi.  The total airfare for both of us was $1899 and included an exit row upgrade for each of us on the long leg of the trip.  The flying time to Nairobi was 14 hours and there was a layover of a couple hours and then an additional 4 hour flight from Nairobi to Johannesburg.   I parked at JFK for 11 days for $122 using Cheap Airport Parking.org and parked at Orom Airport Parking

We stayed at Morrells Farmhouse in Randburg and took and Uber to get there.  It was an idyllic place to stay and the rate was about $140 a night and included breakfast. The dinners were very reasonable and delicious.  After an overnight that included a spectacular dinner with South African wine, we left the next morning on a day-long tour of Johannesburg.  I booked the tour through viator and MoAfrika tours and we were picked up initially by a driver who took us to a meeting point, the government complex, Constitution Hill for the tour.  We also went to the Apartheid museum, world cup stadium, Soweto and the Diefkloof area.  The cost was $163 for both of us including tax and we were delivered with luggage to the airport at the end of the tour.   That evening, around 7, we flew from Johannesburg to Cape Town at a cost of about $100 apiece.  We stayed at the Lagoon Beach Resort and Spa $112 per night including a delicious full buffet breakfast overlooking the beach and Tabletop Mountain.  We got from the airport to the hotel by Uber.  Just as an example, a trip from the hotel to the downtown area was about $5-6.
